Sweet Katie, it's hard to believe that we've been snuggling and loving up on you for one whole week. I know I'm yet to post her birth story (see the part about snuggling and loving up on her ha!), but since you are officially one week old, I thought it was time for a blog update.
We got home from the hospital on Saturday, and I couldn't wait to see how Brady and Ashley reacted to having their baby sister at home. Katie's birth was a huge surprise to Eric and I, so I wasn't able to "prepare" them for the actual arrival of the new baby.
When my mom and dad brought them over that day, they were both very excited to see Eric and I. I had mom bring in Katie from the other room, and both Brayden and Ashley wanted to come tell her hi. Ashley instantly wanted to come up and be right next to her, while Brady stayed back a little bit, but was equally as excited to see her.
Since being home we've spent lots of time enjoying being a family of five. Ashley wants to help with every feeding, every time we put a bottle in or out of the fridge, and every time Katie cries. Brady likes to come up to her and tell her hi. We are learning boundaries about when it's ok to to be a little crazy, and when we need to be a little more careful, but we will get there.
For the first few days, Katie was definitely spending more time awake at night than she was during the day, which made for some really long nights those first few nights home. I do think that she is starting to figure it out though. We are going almost three hours between feedings at night now, and she's been sleeping much better at night after we feed her. She does still like to party around 2 or 3 in the morning some nights, but it hasn't been every night, so I can't complain too much about that.
Katie doesn't enjoy diaper changes, at all. And she doesn't like waiting for food. Little girl gets hangry!
We had our first doctor's appointment today, and Katie is already back up to her birth weight of 6 pounds 7 ounces, so that's a big success. She wasn't a fan of being naked for so long, but the doctor said that things are looking good.
She is so precious, congratulations!
